Vinous 95
The 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru has a creamy nose with touches of white chocolate, almond and chamomile. However, considering the vineyard in question, I would have liked more mineralité and terroir expression. A bit of alcoholic warmth develops in the glass. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity. Tightly coiled citrus fruit, orange zest and patisserie, though it doesn’t fully deliver the tour de force finish you want from a “Monty”. Let’s see what a few years in bottle will do. Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting.

The compelling 2020 Montrachet Grand Cru wafts from the glass with aromas of ripe pear and citrus fruit mingled with honeycomb, white flowers, fresh bread and baking spices. Full-bodied, ample and multidimensional, it’s richly layered, with a textural attack that segues into an ample, fleshy mid-palate and a long, saline finish. Despite its scale, it remains beautifully precise. This is first rate.
