Tasting Notes
Vinous 86
The 2019 Belgrave has a backward, quite austere nose with plenty of tobacco and graphite scents that crowd out the fruit to its detriment. The palate is more outgoing with juicy red fruit and a countervailing bitter edge, but it doesn’t quite kick on towards the finish and leaves you wanting more. The bottle from last year certainly showed better than this. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
Anticipated maturity: 2024-2038
Robert Parker 89
A fine effort, the 2019 Belgrave exhibits aromas of blackcurrants, loamy soil and subtle hints of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, layered and nicely concentrated, with lively acids and ripe but youthfully assertive tannins, it’s a well-made wine that will reward a bit of bottle age.
Anticipated maturity: 2023-2043
