Tasting Notes
Vinous 95
The 2023 Romanee-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru was picked at 37.9 hl/ha between September 12 and 15. This certainly bides its time in the glass, a mixture of red and black fruit, a touch more ripeness compared to the preceding Grands-Echezeaux. Here, iris flower and camphor vie for attention and impart a judicious exotic trait. The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip, a little chalky in texture like the Echezeaux, and dispensing with some of the rondeur that I observed from barrel. In its place, more mineralite and certainly a healthy pinch of cracked black pepper, with background blood orange notes. With my objective and harsh critic’s hat on, this does not quite deliver the sustain, that peacock’s tail finish of a top-drawer RSV, which is why in 2023, it is outflanked by the stunning Grands-Echezeaux. 24,772 bottles produced.
Anticipated maturity: 2030-2058
